Is online notarization actually legal in Colorado?
Yes. Colorado authorized Remote Online Notarization with SB 96, effective December 31, 2020. The relevant statute is §§24-21-501 to 24-21-516. A document notarized online by a Colorado-commissioned online notary has the same legal effect as an in-person notarization.
Do I need to be physically located in Colorado?
No — you do not need to be in Colorado. The notary must be physically located in Colorado at the time of the act, but you (the signer) can be anywhere in the world. This is a defining feature of §24-21-514.5.
What kind of ID do I need?
A current government-issued photo ID: Colorado driver's license or state ID, U.S. passport, or military ID. Colorado requires "satisfactory evidence" of identity; we meet it through credential analysis (ID scan) plus live biometric facial recognition matching you to your ID photo.
Are there documents that cannot be notarized online in Colorado?
