Louisiana authorized Remote Online Notarization with La. R.S. §35:513, effective current law. A document notarized online by a Louisiana-commissioned notary has the same legal effect as one notarized in person — and is accepted by Louisiana county clerks, banks, title companies, and the courts.
"The proof or acknowledgment of any deed or other written instrument, when made by any person without this state and within any other state, territory, or district of the United States, may be made before any officer of such state, territory or district, authorized by the laws thereof to take the proof and acknowledgment of deeds, and when so taken and certified under his official seal, shall be entitled to be recorded in this state, and may be read in evidence in the same manner and with like effect as proofs and acknowledgments taken before any of the officers now authorized by law to take such proofs and acknowledgments."

Is online notarization legal for Louisiana documents?
Yes. Louisiana has not yet authorized its own RON program, but Louisiana accepts notarial acts performed by notaries commissioned in other states under La. R.S. §35:513. Do I need to be physically located in Louisiana?

What kind of ID do I need?
A current government-issued photo ID: state driver's license, U.S. passport, or military ID. The standard follows the commissioning notary's state law; we meet "satisfactory evidence" of identity through credential analysis (ID scan) plus live biometric facial recognition matching you to your ID photo.
Will a Louisiana county recorder accept this?
Yes. Louisiana statute requires recorders to accept acknowledgments taken in another state when performed under that state's law. We also include the notary's state-issued electronic seal, certificate, and journal entry — everything a recorder needs.
Will this work for a Louisiana real estate Cash Sale or Act of Sale?
No — Louisiana real estate transfers require an authentic act under Civ. Code art. 1833: a Louisiana notary, two witnesses, and parties present in person. Cross-state RON does not satisfy authentic act requirements. For Acts of Sale, Cash Sales, and Donations Inter Vivos, work with a Louisiana notary in person.
