Montana has some of the more progressive Remote Online Notarization laws in the union. They are one of the first states in the union to adopt Biometric Verification as a form of ID Proofing. Montana online notary law bhas been permanent since clear back in October 2019 thanks to Montana House Bill 370. Montana notaries are required to do 4 hours of training and pass an online exam. They also have to file an application with the Secretary of State and hold a traditional notary commission.
